When things slow down in a practice area, many doctors are quick to shout that they are suffering because there is too much competition. Not necessarily! Many slow downs are caused by other factors. But it may also be caused by practices targeting the SAME PATIENT BASE rather than diversifying and seeking one that is not already dominated. "Corporate practices' are good at some things but not everything. This is the basis for market segmentaiton. We also discuss briefly the "hypodermic needle" theory of communications and persuasion.

This is the first in a series of podcasts that will take the listener through the process of determining what aspects of a location will work best for him or her. The ideal site to practice is not a "one size fits all" proposition. In fact, it is highly individualized. But not all aspects of practice site selection are as important as others. Remember that practice site selection is a process rather than an event.
